Annnddd Now We Have A Nike Attorney Under Oath Not Denying That They Paid College Hoops Players
And just like that we have more development from the FBI investigation into college hoops from a few years back. Now, none of this is exactly shocking as all three of the names - Deandre Ayton, Brandon McCoy and Bol Bol have popped up before. But it's massive that a Nike attorney did not deny this under oath. Combine that with this:
And we're looking at another potential big deal like we saw with Adidas. That said, not much came from the fallout - at least not yet. Teams have gotten notice of infratctions, but other than Louisville losing its banners and Rick Pitino all the other head coaches are still around and no punishments have been handed down.
Oh that's the other thing. This is all coming out during the Michael Avenatti, yes the same Stormy Daniel's lawyer Michael Avenatti, trial.
I said it before but this whole investigation is a massive waste of time. The thinking that this will stop players from getting paid is absurd. It's not going to 'clean up' the NCAA. That's the part of all this I don't get. Also, why do we care if someone gets paid? It should be legal. I've said it 100 times now. We cheer for laundry, we need to stop pretending like we care if someone is getting some cash or not. Let players make money on their name, image and likeness and put it all in the open. Let the free market dictate what players are worth. What's going to happen? The top recruits will go to Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and UNC? I can't imagine that world.
The other thing to remember here. It's going to take some time for any of this to really hit the NCAA. They have to do their own investigation and there's no guarantee they get a ton from the courts and people don't have to talk to the NCAA.
It will all be worth it though if this is true
Let's just get this shit legal already.
